Join old and new friends at TBO’s 13’th annual Senior University, a day-long program featuring lectures by speakers on topics of interest to Raleigh’s Jewish senior community. The day will begin with a continental breakfast provided by Magnolia Glen, followed by a keynote speech by Lauren Kennedy and Eric Woodall. Two learning sessions will follow before lunch catered by the Pipers Tavern.  We'll finish the day with one more learning session.

Morning Keynote:
Broadway star Lauren Kennedy is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Raleigh. Eric Woodall is a director, casting director and the current Executive Artistic Director of North Carolina Theatre. Friends since childhood, they will speak about their careers and the Raleigh theater scene.

Jorie Slodki - Oh Vey: A History of Yiddish
Yiddish was the language of our grandparents (and great-grandparents), but it is also very much alive today.

Afternoon Session 3

Scott Huler - Rediscovering the Carolinas along the Route of John Lawson’s 1700 Expedition
The author discusses his book chronicling of his adventure retracing the route of this two-month journey through the wilds of the NC backcountry.

Barbra Rothschild - Exploring Capacity and Autonomy for Older Adults
Decision-making in American medical care is firmly based in the ethical principle of autonomy – one’s right to decide what happens to one’s own body. How do we know if someone is unable to make decisions for themselves – if they lack capacity to decide for themselves? And what can we do to prepare for that possibility?
